Q. What is Let’s Count? |
A. Let's Count is an early mathematics program designed to assist early years educators and community professionals in early childhood contexts to work in partnership with parents and other family members to promote positive mathematical experiences for young children (3-5 years). The program aims to foster opportunities for children to engage with the mathematics encountered as part of their everyday lives, talk about it, document it, and explore it in ways that are fun and relevant to them. |

Q. Who is the Let’s Count for? |
A. Let's Count involves professional learning that aims for early years educators and community professionals to engage with parents and family members to support them to encourage their children’s mathematical learning by Noticing, Exploring and Talking About Mathematics in Everyday Life. |

Q. Is it an evaluated program?

A. Yes, Let’s Count is a fully evaluated program. The Smith Family conducted an evaluation over a 3-year period in four communities and multiple early learning and care settings. Surveys and interviews were conducted with educators and parent/carers, and a Maths Assessment interview undertaken with children who participated in Let’s Count and a baseline group to compare against, of children who did not participate. The key findings were, for children who participated in Let’s Count there were statistically significant improvements. |

Q. Will the online version be evaluated? |
A. Yes, the online pilot included an evaluation, which was conducted by Monash University, Peridot Education and Charles Sturt University. It showed that Let’s Count Online has the same benefits of the face-to-face program. |

Q. Is Let’s Count aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)? |
A. Yes, it’s aligned with the EYLF. It provides early years educators and community professionals with the skills and resources to facilitate children’s learning. Early years educators and community professionals can then actively promote these skills to parents and children in their settings in collaboration with children, parents and families. Let’s Count also reflects the recent 2023 updates to the EYLF following consultation with the sector and community covering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, Sustainability and Collaborative leadership and teamwork. |

Q. Is Let’s Count accredited as professional development? |
A. Let’s Count can contribute to professional development hours required by teachers and educators who qualify. Please access your State Department of Education sites. |

Q. Does Let’s Count receive any funding? | A. Let’s Count has been funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education and other philanthropic organisations. The Commonwealth funding of $4.12m over 4 years runs from 2020-2024. |
About the Let's Count eLearning | |||

Q. Why would I do the online course? | A. A number of early years educators who took part in the first small pilot said that they would rather do the online version as it means they don’t have to take time out of work hours to attend face-to-face sessions. Some said that it’s great for educators in remote areas, who may not be able to attend a face-to-face session. Some said they just preferred online learning because it gives them the opportunity to do it in their own time and at their own pace. | ||
Q. Is there a cost to undertake the course? | A. No, there is no charge. | ||
Q. Who can register for the course? | A. While there are no restrictions as to who can register, the Professional Learning is only relevant to people working with parents and children ages 3-5 on a regular basis. | ||
Q. Does the course assume prior knowledge in this field? | A. To a certain extent, the material does assume some prior knowledge of early childhood pedagogy and practices. | ||
Q. How many modules are there? | A. There are two parts. Online Session 1 has 3 modules that are self-paced and Online Session 2 is a 2 hour facilitated online forum which you will have the opportunity of attending once you have completed Modules 1-3 and had an opportunity to implement Let’s Count over the course of approximately 4 weeks. | ||
Q. How long will it take me to complete Let's Count Online? | Ideally the whole course should take 6-8 weeks in the following stages:

Q. What is the Implementation period? | A. The Implementation period is your opportunity to put the concepts and pedagogical practices of Let’s Count into practice. It provides you with the opportunity to practice these in your setting and sets you up for the Facilitated Online Session 2. which focuses on your refection of working with parents and planning for further activities. | ||
Q. What happens if I don’t complete the course within the timeframe above? | A. That’s okay. Your access to the course is not time-limited. The above timings are simply our recommendations. | ||
Q. Do I get access to online resources? | A. Yes, you have access to a range of resources, including the Let's Count Handbook and Let's Count at Home and Out and About tip sheets (also translated in different languages). | ||

Q. Do I get a completion certificate? | A. Yes, once you have completed the entire program you will receive a completion certificate. | ||

Technical Aspects | |||

Not all versions of OS and Browser and dates can be supported equally. The Smith Family product suite follows the same support dates for the listed devices and operating systems as messaged by the Device, OS and Browser manufacturers and these are subject to change at short notice. As The Smith Family cannot test all possible configurations of each individual set up on their own devices then - differences may occur. | |||
